The Man for the Job: The Review

The title of this movie made me anticipate seeing it, but it just left me confused. Most of the story is told to us by the actors, and it has lots of flashbacks to help us understand the story. Yet, I was still left confused.

The movie has a good plot, and a good story line, and it is right for the times, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. While some actors give us good performances, the overall feel to the movie is one of rushing towards the end.

This is the second movie for Temi Otedola, and all I can say is that she still needs to go to acting school to hone her skills and gain enough experience. Ibrahim Sulaiman looks like a  tech bro, complete with the mandatory turtleneck, but it feels like he is holding back. Looks apart, his acting of the tech bro role is not fully believable. Uzor Arukwe, on the other hand, is truly believable as the struggling banker who used to have a lot of glory as the IT person but could not transition into a tech bro. Ini Edo transforming from a doting housewife to a sexy siren provides some excitement in the movie.

The cinematography in this movie is basic at best – nothing too spectacular – and fails to give us the feel of a tech movie. The backstories do not really tie up with the main part, and the movie forces a lot of square pegs into round holes. The story has a lot of potential, but this potential is left unrealized and leaves the audience wondering what just happened.
